![]() There are several ways you can do this today, including soaking your toothbrush in antibacterial mouthwash; storing your toothbrush in a small glass of hydrogen peroxide; boiling your toothbrush for three minutes in water; buying a UV toothbrush sanitizer to use. However, one of the most common and beneficial ways of doing this is by using your dishwasher, if you have one. How to Sanitize Your Toothbrush in the DishwasherYou can easily place your toothbrush in your dishwasher's silverware compartment. Once it's there you'll want to run your toothbrush through the hot water cycle. Make sure you don't use any soap when you do so though. Of course, it's important to realize that you should never run your electric toothbrush through your dishwasher in this way. This procedure will only work for your manual toothbrush. When to Sanitize Your ToothbrushAccording to the National Dental Association you should run your toothbrush through your dishwasher at least once a week. They also strongly urge you to replace your toothbrush with a new one once every three months. While many people will tell you that you should throw your toothbrush away after you've been sick, this isn't necessary if you thoroughly clean it once you're feeling better.
