The first food that is not only a great snack, it can be added throughout your diet. We are talking about cheese. There have many numerous studies that show cheese prevents cavity formation. It works by lowering the pH level inside your mouth. Most of the research suggests that cheese does this by increasing the bodies intact of calcium while triggering the saliva gland.
Another way to prevent cavities is to stick with your crunchy veggies. Ones with a texture like carrots and celery are best. Not only do you receive the vitamins you need, but they also work like a toothbrush. They can remove bacteria from your teeth while causing you to salivate. This combo is very efficient in defending against cavities.
Drinks That Prevent Cavities
It's important to explain what a pH level is in your mouth. It is the scoring system for the acidity of something. It scales from 1-14. The higher the pH level, the less acidic it is. At a pH level of around 5.5 for most people, the teeth begin to demineralize, meaning they start eroding from acids. A healthy mouth stays in a neutral range.
Your teeth actually become stronger and remineralize when the mouth has a pH of 7.5. Sodas, energy drinks, even your diet drinks, have a pH from 2-5. Your water, many kinds of milk, and unsweetened tea stay around a pH of 6-8. Google your favorite beverage to learn more.
