Along with vital elements in your oral care routine, such as regular brushing and flossing, there are also ways to reduce your risk of certain oral cancers and support your overall health. Although using tobacco products is one of the most well-known causes of oral cancer, there are other culprits that can compromise your oral health.
Ways to Protect Yourself from Oral Cancer
Don't smoke and avoid smokeless tobacco. This includes cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, pipes, and second-hand smoke. Quitting your use of tobacco products is the best way to avoid oral cancer.
Learn if you're high risk. Some people are more likely to develop oral cancer, including those who have a previous history of it. If your risk is determined to be higher than most, you may need to visit our office more often than usual for oral cancer checks.
You can easily reduce your risk of developing oral cancer by continuing to practice healthy oral hygiene habits, consulting with your dentist regularly, and making some important lifestyle changes. Contact our office for more information on how to prevent oral cancer.
