Sharing Utensils Can Increase Your Risk of Oral Health ProblemsIt is generally considered true that sharing utensils and toothbrushes and things that goes in one's mouth with others is not good and puts both of you at risk for not being at your best optimum oral health.

There are some general things we should all do to keep ourselves at our optimum for our oral hygiene and practicing good habits is one. One of the very first of those would be not cross contaminating your food or toothbrushes with others of your friends or family. The next thing is, of course, to brush regularly, but not aggressively, using a soft-bristled toothbrush at least twice daily. Then add flossing afterward.

The Importance Of Proper Hygiene


The use of fluoride is also very critical in your overall oral hygiene. Many experts believe that fluoride helps in the prevention of cavities and it is a common ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash. It is suggested that you floss once a day as it can remove plaque and bacteria from between the teeth, where a toothbrush is unable to reach. Flossing also helps remove plaque and bacteria from between the teeth – where a toothbrush just isn't able to reach – not to mention helps in breath control by removing debris and food that has become trapped in between the teeth.

Seeing a dentist regularly is also very important, it is recommended no less than every 6 months and then of course more if there are specific concerns or if you are having procedures being done.

It is generally considered bad to smoke as it harms the body's immune system and makes it difficult for the body to heal tissue including those in the mouth. The ADA warns that people who smoke may experience slow healing after a dental procedure. Smoking also always affects the appearance of the mouth, leading to yellowing of the teeth and tongue and can give off a bad odor.
