Being an adult in the professional world, your schedule is probably constantly jam-packed with conference calls, important work meetings, and important client-facing interactions that require you to put your best face forward. However, when your best face does not include your bright and happy smile because you are dissatisfied with your teeth, then you may be wondering if you are a candidate for orthodontic treatment.
The challenge that our adult patients often face when they come to us here at Tieken Smiles Dentistry asking about braces is that they do not want to seem less professional due to the extremely noticeable wires and brackets that are associated with orthodontics. When we have an adult in our office who would like to look at their options to improve the appearance of their smile without appearing unprofessional or juvenile, we like to educate them about clear aligners
What You Need to Know about Clear Aligners for Adults
Clear aligners are a fantastic option for many of our patients. They are subtle and discreet, allowing you to adjust your teeth without having to announce your dental work to the world. This is ideal for anyone who wants to present themselves professionally and does not want metal brackets and wires tarnishing the appearance of their smile.
Clear aligners are great for a wide variety of orthodontic concerns. If you struggle with uneven spaces between your teeth, a visible gap between them, mild issues with your bite and jaw alignment, and overcrowded teeth, then clear aligners may benefit you. More severe malocclusion may require traditional dentures, but we will discuss this all with you during your consultation to help you determine what procedure is best for you.
Getting clear aligners are quite convenient for many of our patients. For starters, they require fewer checkups with us for adjustments. We typically have our patients pick up their trays every two weeks and have them check up with us every six weeks to see how the procedure is progressing. Furthermore, because you only have to wear them for 22 hours per day, that means that you can take them out for up to two hours per day. That means you will not have to constantly take time out of your busy schedule to see us.
You can remove them for eating, which means you will not have to avoid any of your favorite foods while getting clear aligner treatment. Keeping your teeth healthy and clean is a cinch when you use it, as well. You will not need to buy special flossers to help keep your teeth clean, because you can simply pop the trays out to brush and floss before you place them back in your mouth.
How Long Do You Have to Wear Them?
Treatment with clear aligners are often shorter in duration than traditional dental braces, too. Our patients start to notice results in the first few weeks after starting treatment, and you may be finished with your entire course of treatment in as little as a year to a year and a half. Traditional braces can take up to three years, so your treatment time is greatly reduced.
